New Poll: Spartz Vulnerable as Ford Surges in Indiana’s 5th
Carmel, IN - J.D. Ford’s campaign released a new poll today showing Indiana's 5th congressional district as a pure toss-up race. Congresswoman Victoria Spartz is deeply unpopular in this district. Trump, who won the district by 17 points just 18 months ago, is now viewed negatively by the majority of voters in this district. The poll shows clearly that voters in Indiana's 5th district are frustrated and ready for change, and State Senator J.D. Ford is well positioned to flip this district in November.
The poll comes on the heels of today's announcement that the DCCC has added Indiana's 5th to its "Districts in Play" list, one of the House Democrats' top targets nationwide heading into November.
In a district that President Trump won by 17 points, more voters now view President Trump unfavorably than favorably (48% favorable / 51% unfavorable)
The Republican generic ballot advantage is only in the mid-single digits (40% Dem / 45% GOP).
Victoria Spartz is uniquely unpopular for a sitting member of Congress, with a majority rating her unfavorably (34% Favorable / 51% Unfavorable). A majority of the district also sees her as part of the problem in Washington (53%) and not caring about people like them (51%). Forty-nine percent (49%) of the district considers her ineffective.
Conversely, J.D. Ford is well liked among voters familiar with him, with a double-digit +14 net favorability.
The race is currently within the margin-of-error, with Spartz having a narrow 2-point lead (46% Ford / 48% Spartz). Balanced positive information about both candidates moves the race toward Ford and yields a 6-point Ford lead (50% Ford / 44% Spartz).
“Hoosiers in the 5th district want a leader who will make life more affordable for us,” said Ford. “For six years, Victoria Spartz has used her position in Congress to rig the rules to benefit herself and her big corporate donors while our friends and neighbors struggle to make ends meet. I’ve spent my time in the statehouse doing what’s right on behalf of Hoosiers and not party leaders or special interests, and I will continue to do just that in Congress. I will fight to make life easier for the people of Indiana.”
