After Spartz helped make Indiana one of the most data center-friendly states in the country, State Senator J.D. Ford re-ups his call for Spartz to introduce his data center regulations in Congress.
Carmel, IN - J.D. Ford’s campaign issued the following response to Victoria Spartz’s call for federal review of Indiana data center projects.
“Congresswoman Victoria Spartz helped make Indiana one of the most data-friendly states in the country – full stop. She took campaign donations from big tech companies like Amazon and utility companies like Duke Energy, then voted for a version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that would have removed state and local governments’ ability to create guardrails against AI data center expansions that harm Hoosiers and harm communities,” said Ford. “Spartz has had six years in Congress to take action. She didn’t just stay silent – she rolled out the red carpet for the very companies getting massive tax breaks to bring their data centers into Indiana against voters’ consent. Her sudden call for the review of major data center projects in Indiana is nothing more than cynical election-year posturing from an ineffective and unpopular incumbent whose favorability is dwindling. Congresswoman Spartz is not serious about this issue, because if she were, she would introduce the same legislation that I did in the Indiana Senate in Congress: putting communities in control of whether and when data centers are built, and ensuring no costs are passed on to ratepayers.”
“As a State Senator, I voted for efforts to stop the more than $650 million in tax incentives offered to data center owners and developers. For two years in a row, I introduced legislation to require data centers, before construction, to disclose to the community their expected utility and water usage and provide a site assessment to determine the possible effects on the community of the construction and operation. This assessment would include impacts on utility rate payers, costs to small businesses and negative consequences to Indiana farmlands.”
